Providing Appraisal and Consulting Services Nationwide
We appraise mineral interests nationwide — oil and gas, coal, aggregates, industrial minerals, and metallic ore bodies — at every stage from speculative and exploration-held ground through permitted reserves, active surface and underground operations, and reclamation. Our work also extends to large acreage tracts where extraction is one of several competing uses, alongside timber, conservation, recreation, agriculture, and development potential.
We value operating businesses across the natural resource extraction sector — mining, oil and gas, aggregates, and industrial minerals — along with the energy, materials, and service companies that supply them. These engagements demand more than a conventional enterprise valuation: value depends on the reserves in the ground, the equipment and property interests used to reach them, and the permits and contracts that make production possible. We have combined expertise in business valuation, mineral appraisal, and real property valuation.
LC Valuation Group serves both as a retained expert and as a jointly retained neutral in mineral, natural resource, and land disputes nationwide. We provide expert opinions, appraisal reviews, and testimony in litigation, condemnation, tax, and valuation matters, and we serve as a neutral where parties want the valuation question resolved outside a contested proceeding — rendering an independent opinion of value, reviewing competing appraisals to identify what actually drives the difference, or establishing the technical parameters both sides can work from

More than 50 years of combined experience appraising mineral rights and natural resource assets nationwide — billions of dollars in value across more than 1.5 million acres.
Beyond appraisal assignments, we provide consulting and appraisal review services — helping stakeholders define a valuation question before it becomes a dispute, untangling the assumptions behind competing conclusions, and supplying the market data clients need to make informed decisions.
Our expertise in mineral valuation rests on advanced degrees in geology and business, the MAI, ASA, and Certified Minerals Appraiser designations, and decades of assignments completed alongside geologists, mining engineers, and operators in the field.
We work directly with government agencies and with private parties in matters where a government agency is a party or an intended user, on projects throughout the country. Agencies we have served, or whose requirements our work has been prepared to meet, include the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Internal Revenue Service, Department of the Interior, Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, state finance cabinets, and departments of transportation.
Our clients include lenders, landowners, mining companies, oil and gas operators, attorneys, and state and federal agencies. We prepare appraisals to USPAP and, where applicable, to UASFLA, FIRREA and the Interagency Appraisal and Evaluation Guidelines, [AVSO], and the specific requirements of agencies, courts, and other intended users.
Mineral and natural resource disputes usually turn on technical questions — reserve classification, recoverable tonnage, royalty rates, price forecasts, discount rates, highest and best use of a severed estate. These are questions that benefit from an expert with extensive experience with mineral valuation.
